Cahokia Power Plant
Built from 1923-1939 in Sauget Illinois, this power plant was once the largest coal fired plant on the Mississippi, burning over a ton of coal every 30 seconds and consuming over 600 million gallons of water a day. The plant powered St. Louis across the river via underground cables until it was decommissioned in 1976.
